Another weekend with my college roommate. This time when we hit the craft store, we grabbed a cheap set of oil pastels for $3. This was really my first time working with them, and I was shocked with how wide they are, how much detail i was able to get in a 5″x5″ piece. I grabbed a photo from a magazine and started sketching it out upside down.
Working upside down is a great way to keep “what you think it should look like”, from messing up what’s actually there. I was surprised with how well the eyes came out. I touched up the nose and mouth before framing it, but didn’t snag another photo before it was gone. – Krystal Marie
